Yanukovych: We'll do everything to buy cheaper gas where it is possible
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has stated that Ukraine will seek to buy cheaper gas.
"It is really bad for us to buy expensive gas from Russia today, and that's why we will do everything to buy it at a lower price somewhere where it is possible. It's not because we disrespect Russia, it's because this brings us no profit," Yanukovych told journalists in Kharkiv on Thursday.
He added that the Russian side understands Ukraine's position.
"I think our Russian partners understand this very well. And when they consider the whole issue thoughtfully together with us, then we will find a solution. But now it's too difficult, we have been facing difficulties for the third year, and they know this very well. That's why we are ready for a dialogue," Yanukovych said.
At the same time, the president did not answer a question about a possible compromise Ukraine is ready to accept in gas talks with Russia.
"A compromise is something that usually opens a way to a solution, when both sides reach an agreement. We are ready for this, but on equal terms, as they say," the president said.
