Kyiv points at interest of many countries in elections to Verkhovna Rada
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has pointed at the fact that the international community is taking interest in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
"Today we can say that there is some heightened interest in the political processes in our country," the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He noted that 3,797 international observers have registered for participation in the election process in Ukraine. Some 3,278 of them represent 35 international organizations, and 519 will come from 28 countries of the world.
To compare, in 2006 some 3,516 observers came for the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, 944 international observers came in 2001, and 411 in 1998.
Dykusarov said none of the applicants' requests were rejected during the period of registration of international observers.
"The Foreign Ministry does everything possible to provide international observers with an opportunity to carry out their mission in Ukraine," the diplomat said.
According to him, the ministry improved its consular department at the Boryspil Airport to provide observers that are arriving to Ukraine with necessary information.
In addition, on election day, the Foreign Ministry and its press service will work round the clock.
