Ukraine to receive new generation SAMP/T air defense systems - Macron
Ukraine and France have signed an agreement that includes the purchase of new-generation SAMP/T air defense systems, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
"Today we are taking another step forward. With this agreement, we continue to focus on closer cooperation and integration of our defense industries to support Ukraine, modernize its armed forces, which remain at the forefront and are Europe's first line of defense, and deter aggression," he said at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris on Monday.
Macron stressed that the signed agreement provides for strengthening bilateral cooperation both immediately and over the next 10 years, with the acquisition of "decisive capabilities in the very short term."
"Next is the acquisition of new SAMP/T air defense systems of the new generation. They are currently under development. The decisive stage will be passed from 2026, and the agreement makes it possible to deploy them on Ukrainian territory. They will complement the systems you already know, but with new characteristics," the French leader said.
