Zelenskyy on Medical Worker Day: Ukrainian medical system remains functional during war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the occasion of Medical Worker Day congratulated all those involved on their professional holiday and presented state awards, emphasizing that even during war, the Ukrainian medical system remains functional.
"Our Ukrainian doctors, all our Ukrainian medical workers, nurses, medical brothers, combat medics, every one of you who saves lives and by doing so saves us all, saves Ukraine. Today is your professional day, I want to thank you on behalf of our entire people, our society," the president said during a visit to the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
He noted "now there is probably no hospital in Ukraine that has not felt what war is, and that has not accepted the wounded from the front, or after the attacks of the Russian army."
"We can only be proud of you, proud of our Ukrainian doctors, combat medics, nurses and brothers, many people who, despite all the difficulties, really work in such conditions. I am grateful to everyone who is trying to make our medicine, both civilian and frontline, as effective as possible for these conditions of war and constant Russian terror," he said.
"Therefore, the Ukrainian medical system remains functional, remains working. This is the merit of all of you," Zelenskyy added.
According to the head of state, "even after such harsh Russian attacks as against Okhmatdyt and hundreds of other hospitals that were damaged or destroyed by Russian shelling, we do not lose the ability of our medicine to save lives."
"It is only your professionalism, your strength, your character that work for all of us, for the whole of Ukraine," he said.
Zelenskyy's press service said the president also presented awards to doctors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Service, the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, the Main Clinical Military Hospital, the National Children's Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt, the Emergency Medical Care Center of Kharkiv region.
In addition, Zelenskyy spoke with the military undergoing treatment at the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, thanked them for defending Ukraine and awarded them.
