UDAR demands Ukrainian president intervene in situation at constituency in Pervomaisk
The UDAR Party has demanded that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych "urgently intervene in the situations that are happening in some constituencies."
"We consider that it is unacceptable for Berkut riot police to intervene in the process of determining the election results. Ukraine's interior minister is appointed by the president, so it is the president who now has to bear the responsibility for the maintenance of law and order during the election process," reads a statement posted on the party's official Web site.
The party described as "absolutely outrageous" that "Berkut police riot officers broke into the building of constituency No. 132 in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region, loaded vote count protocols into a bus, beati people and poisoned them with tear gas."
UDAR demanded that all those involved in this situation "be called to account and that the leadership of interior bodies not avoid being held to account."
"These parliamentary elections have become the dirtiest in the history of Ukraine, and in some regions in the country they are turning into a war against our own citizens. By delaying the determination of the election results, intimidating commission members, seizing district commissions, using tear gas and destroying ballots, the authorities will not security a complete victory and calmness in Ukraine," the party said.
