Prank caller sentenced in Kyiv to five-year jail term – police

A prank caller who called in the "mining" of Lisova, Lybidska metro stations, as well as the a pretrial detention facility in Kyiv, has been sentenced by Kyiv's Shevchenkivsky District Court to a five-year prison term, the National Police of Ukraine's press service has said.

The court sentenced the native of Vinnytsia region, who twice called 102 to report plans to blow up the two Kyiv metro stations and a state facility for holding criminals, pursuant to Part 1 of Article 259 of Ukraine's Criminal Code (conveying false information about a threat to citizens, the destruction or damaging of property) to a five-year jail term.

The police press service said law-enforcement officials and bomb experts inspected Lisova and Lybidska metro stations, as well as the pretrial holding facility. No bombs or incendiary devices were found during their search.

Police conducted a number of checks to determine the identity of the prankster, who is an ex-convict from Vinnytsia region. The perpetrator called in the threat from a telephone and in court confessed his guilt. He said he made the prank calls to entertain himself.
