NBU worsens inflation forecast for 2017

Inflation in Ukraine in 217 would be more that 9.1% projected earlier by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Deputy NBU Governor Oleh Churiy has said.

"This year inflation will decline more slowly that it was projected in the July estimates being 9.1%. Inflation would larger deviate from the targeted range 8% plus minus 2 percentage points as of late 2017," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

The NBU did not specify the new estimates for consumer price growth this year.

Churiy said that in the past months risks of increased fundamental pressure on prices in the medium-term outlook grew, in particular, by demand.

"Consumption being increased along with the raised salaries could have an additional incentive thanks to the expansion of budget expenses and pension payments in the coming months," Churiy said.

He said that high current figures for price growth could trigger the change in the inflation improvement trend seen in the past two years.

Churiy said that the NBU projects that annual inflation would slow by the end of this year.
