No reason for extending state of emergency in energy sector - Ukrenergo
There are no grounds for the extension of a state of emergency in the energy sector, Ukrenergo Head Vsevolod Kovalchuk has told journalists in Kyiv.
"The term of a state of emergency in the energy sector has expired. And now there is no legislative basis for its extension," he stated.
Kovalchuk clarified the law, on the basis of which such extraordinary measures could be introduced, has not been valid since June.
"In addition, at present there is no need for emergency measures. Power plants that do not have enough coal in warehouses do not apply for work, while that have enough anthracite are now in demand," he said.
The Ukrenergo head added that in theory the need to introduce emergency measures in the energy sector could arise in October.
As reported, emergency measures in the energy sector in Ukraine had ben valid since February 17 to July 17, 2017. First of all, the measures were introduced to save anthracite coal due to the suspension of its supplies from the ATO zone.
