NBU to permit early payment of credits issued by non-resident banks, IFI – acting NBU head

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) considers it possible to continue the gradual liberalization of regulation in the foreign exchange market due to the favorable situation on it and intends to expand possibilities for the early repayment of loans attracted from non-residents, Acting NBU Head Yakiv Smolii has said.

"First, banks will be able to repay such loans ahead of schedule. Secondly, businesses will be able to early repay loans in case when the shareholder of such a borrower is an international financial institution (IFI)," he said at a briefing in the central bank.

"Thirdly, resident borrowers will be able to make early repayment of loans under the term that the non-resident creditor is the bank," the banker added.

He said these steps would help facilitate attraction of debt funds abroad and at the same time would not lead to the deterioration of the situation in the foreign exchange market.
