Freight rail traffic between Ukraine and Russia comes to 43 mln tonnes in 2016
The volume of freight rail traffic between Ukraine and the Russian Federation in 2016 totaled 42.834 million tonnes.
The press service of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia told Interfax-Ukraine import shipments totaled 19.616 million tonnes, export 9.288 million tonnes. Cargo transit from Russia amounted to 13.54 million tonnes, to Russia some 390,000 tonnes.
The main types of freight transported between the countries were coal, construction materials, iron and manganese ore, fertilizers, ferrous metals, and chemicals.
As reported, participants in the blockade of trade with the occupiers issued an ultimatum to the government until April 2 to sign contracts for the supply of coal from other countries, except for Russia, otherwise they promise to move to the active phase of the blockade on all railway crossings near the eastern border of Ukraine to prevent its imports from the Russian Federation.
"We will toughen our blockade. This concerns rail tracks," the second commander of the Donbas battalion, coordinator of the blockade of trade with the occupiers Anatoliy Vynohorodsky said on March 10.
