NBU hopes to get $2.3 bln from IMF this year

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) hopes to receive two credit tranches of $2.3 billion this year from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Deputy NBU Governor Oleh Churiy has said.

"We expect $1 billion in this tranche [the decision will be made by the IMF on September 14] and if we continue cooperation with the IMF – additionally $1.3 billion. A total of $2.3 billion by the end of this year," he told reporters after a roundtable in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Churiy said that if the positive decision is made for the first tranche, the funds would arrive to Ukraine in two or three days. He said that the NBU hopes to receive this tranche and the next one.

"We take this into account in the reserve forecast for the end of this year," he said.

He said that the positive decision of the IMF board on the first tranche would open an opportunity for Ukraine to attract an additional $1 billion via the issue of U.S. secured eurobonds and EUR 600 million from the European Commission.
