Japan to raise situation in Ukraine at G7 summit

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said Japan will raise the issue of the situation in Ukraine at the summit of the G7 leaders.

"I'm going to initiate a discussion on Ukraine during the summit of the Group of Seven," he said during the talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Tokyo on Wednesday.

The Japanese prime minister also said that he intends to continue his efforts aimed at the development of bilateral relations with Ukraine.

Abe said that Japan continues its efforts to resolve the situation around Ukraine and fulfills its promises to provide financial support to Kyiv.

For his part, Poroshenko thanked the leadership of Japan for its assistance and readiness to consolidate the efforts of its partners in restoring the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The next G7 summit will take place in Japan on May 26-27.
