Ukraine, Turkey premiers instruct their ministers to resume talks on FTA between Ukraine and Turkey
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu have instructed their ministers to resume negotiations on a free trade area (FTA) between the countries.
"Negotiations on a free trade area between Ukraine and Turkey were suspended in 2013. Now we jointly give instructions to our ministries to start technical consultations on the resumption of negotiations for the establishment of a free trade area, which will be held in March," Yatseniuk said at a press conference in the Cabinet.
Yatseniuk also proposed that the Turkish side considers further investment in energy and infrastructure projects in Ukraine, including gas. At the same time, he noted that this is the first winter when Ukraine did not buy Russian gas after January 1.
The Ukrainian premier thanked Turkey for the issue of a five-year $50 million loan.
"By issuing a $50 million loan, Turkey demonstrated its support for economic reforms in Ukraine," Yatseniuk said.
