Over 98% of Ukrainian banks disclose ownership structure

The number of banks with non-transparent ownership structure in Ukraine fell to less than 2% of their total number, and they are on the list of troubled banks, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva has said.

"If they do not disclose their shareholders within next month, by the end of the first quarter they will be sent for liquidation," she said at a meeting of the profile parliamentary committee in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Gontareva said that since early 2014 the NBU removed 64 banks from the market of one third of their total number, including 33 banks last year.

She said that a total of 92 banks out of 116 operating banks have less than 10% of assets of the banking system and 85 banks – 5%. The NBU expects that the banking system will consolidate this and next years, she said.
