Coal stocks at Ukrainian thermal power plants shrink 8.4% in a week – Ukrenergo
Coal stocks at Ukrainian thermal power plants' warehouses shrank by 8.4%, or 1,216 tonnes, to 1.320 million tonnes from July 27 to August 3, national energy company Ukrenergo has reported.
In particular, anthracite coal stocks totaled 542,200 tonnes, including 427,300 tonnes at Luhansk thermal power plant. Stocks of gas and long-flame coal totaled 777,600 tonnes, and out of this, 285,000 tonnes was stored at Burshtynska thermal power plant.
In operation on August 3 were 31 carbon blocks of power generation companies and one thermal power generation facility with a total capacity of 5.292 GW. Twenty blocks and one thermal power generation facility with a total capacity of 5.518 GW were standing idle due to the lack of fuel. Emergency repairs to damaged equipment were under way at four blocks and one thermal power plant with a total capacity of 868 MW.
The share of nuclear power plants in the total power generation as of August 2 was 53% (9.052 GW), thermal power plants accounted for 31% (5.292 GW), combined heat and power plants for 3.8% (649 MW), hydroelectric and pumped storage plants for 11.2% (1.908 GW), and wind farms for 1% (178 MW).
As reported, coal stocks of at thermal and combined heat and power plants in June 2015 grew by 22.4%, or 283,000 tonnes, to 1.545 million tonnes as of July 1.
Stocks of gas and long-flame coal as of July 1 totaled 960,300 tonnes (829,900 tonnes as of June 1, 2015); there were also 584,400 tonnes of anthracite coal slack and semi-anthracite (431,800 tonnes as of June 1, 2015).
Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said that Ukraine needs to accumulate 2.5 million tonnes of coal by the beginning of the heating season this year. Of the amount, 1.5 million tonnes should be gas coal and anthracite.
