Yatseniuk orders increase in EU gas purchases during summer
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has ordered an increase in natural gas purchases from the EU at the lowest price before the heating season begins.
"We should by the end of the year maximally purchase gas from the EU member countries, pump gas exclusively in the period of the lowest prices. And this period starts in a month," he said during the public report on the 100 days of activity of the Ukrainian government.
According to him, the division of Naftogaz Ukrainy into business directions should be completed by the end of the year.
Yatseniuk also spoke of the adoption of the law reforming Ukraine's GTS in 2014 and called on European and American companies to participate in its management.
"We appeal to all our western partners: the law on the GTS modernization and operation has been adopted. Dear Europeans and Americans, you have the opportunity to become the co-shareholders of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The country can defend itself not only with the troops, but also foreign assets, which are in the territory of the state," he said.
