Naftogaz welcomes biogas producers' access to Ukrainian gas transport system

NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy says that it supports biogas producers being granted access to Ukraine's gas transport system (GTS), the company's press service reported.

"As of today Ukraine is able to produce about 6.3 billion cubic meters of biogas and biomethane per year, according to experts (who met on February 17 with the participation of GTS operator Ukrtransgaz, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry, the National Commission for State Energy and Public Utilities Regulation and some German companies). Naftogaz welcomes an increase in the production of alternative types of gas in Ukraine and will support biogas producers being granted access to the Ukrainian GTS," the company said.

Naftogaz cites the example of Germany's biogas industry, which produces about 2 billion cubic meters of biogas per year, and that Germany plans to boost biogas output to 10 billion cubic meters of gas (10% of domestic gas consumption) by 2030.
