Ukrzaliznytsia could post UAH 284 mln loss in 2014

Ukrainian railways could post a loss of UAH 284 million in 2014.

According to the press service of State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia, this figure is mainly due to Donetsk Railways losses, worth UAH 816 million.

According to Donetsk Railways, due to damage to railway infrastructure by unidentified persons, and their subsequent inability to transport cargo, Ukrzaliznytsia from July introduced 12 restrictions on certain railway sections, on the transportation of goods and empty wagons to and from 110 stations.

As of December 23, after hearing appeals from Donetsk Railways, traffic travelling to 30 Ukrzaliznytsia stations, three Donetsk Railways stations, three Ukrzaliznytsia stations towards the CIS and the Baltic States, and one travelling from Russian Railways was permitted.

When the situation stabilizes, all restrictions on traffic are due to be removed.

In addition, about 1,404 railway infrastructure installations were damaged, with the damage amounting to UAH 800 million. 696 installations have been restored, costing about UAH 93.3 million. 704 installations are due to be repaired.

As reported, the net profit of Ukrzaliznytsia in 2013 amounted to UAH 545.304 million, 38.4% less than in 2012. Sales revenues decreased by 3.2%, to UAH 51.049 billion.
