Naftogaz plans to buy gas from Gazprom at moment of peak consumption
National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy plans to buy gas from Russia's Gazprom at the moments of peak consumption, and European companies remain the key suppliers of gas to Ukraine, the press service of Naftogaz Ukrainy has reported.
"The conditions of the agreement allow us to buy Russian gas to balance the system in the moments of peak consumption. For example, we see that Ukrainian consumers take more gas than all other resources can secure the volume (own extraction, imports from the EU and gas storage facilities) and we need additional gas. Then we use our right to buy gas from Gazprom. European companies will remain the key suppliers of imported gas to Ukraine this winter," the press service said, citing Board Chairman Andriy Kobolev.
Kobolev called on Ukrainians to save imported fuel.
"Households consume two thirds of gas in winter period. Too hot radiators and opened windows in houses are the best way of increasing purchases of Russian gas," he said.
