Ukraine to raise gas tariffs for households on average by 73%, says finance minister
Ukraine plans to raise gas tariffs for the population by an average of 73%, Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"As for those who use gas, the price for all categories will rise by an average of 73%," he said.
According to Shlapak, the tariffs will grow gradually over four years, with the last rise coming in 2017.
"The situation with the heating tariffs is more complicated, they will be raised on average by 40%," he added.
The minister stressed that 4.5 million people who receive subsidies will not be affected by the prices hike.
Earlier reports said that the gas tariffs were planned to be raised by a half. The National Energy Regulatory Commission was to consider this issue on Wednesday, but deferred its discussion.
The gas tariffs for households in Ukraine have not changed since July 2010.
