President orders government to tackle problems in socio-economic sphere

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to speed up the work on overcoming negative trends in the socio-economic sphere and concentrate the resources of the state and economic entities on priority development directions.

The respective instruction was published on the Web site of the head of the state on Friday.

The government was instructed to analyze the implementation of state programs, including targeted programs, in energy, industry, construction, transport and road infrastructure, agriculture, energy, the housing and utility sector, as well as in the space, social and health spheres. In particular, the Cabinet of Ministers was ordered to analyze the level of implementation of these state programs, compliance with the established deadlines for the implementation of state programs and certain activities and tasks envisaged by them, etc.

Based on the analysis, the government was instructed to take measures to eliminate the detected shortcomings and accelerate the implementation of state programs, with a report to be delivered by March 3 this year.

In addition, the government must ensure the constant monitoring of the level of the implementation of government programs, compliance with the established deadlines for their implementation and certain activities and tasks envisaged by them, as well as the compliance of the actual amounts of funding for state programs with the figures identified in state programs on the funding sources (reports should be provided on a monthly basis, before the tenth day of the month following the reporting month).
