Liberalization of air service between Ukraine and Israel will increase passenger traffic by 50%
The liberalization of the air service between Ukraine and Israel in future would increase passenger traffic between the two countries by 50%, CEO of Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv) Oleksiy Kochanov has told reporters.
According to him, a visa-free regime with Israel would permit the development of a very efficient Kyiv-Tel Aviv route, and this route ranks second after a significant increase in traffic on the Kyiv-Moscow route. In particular Ukraine International Airlines saw a two-fold increase on this route.
"Unfortunately, the airspace between Ukraine and Israel remains overregulated, there are restrictions under the intergovernmental agreement on the number of air carriers, flights that can be performed," he said.
According to Kochanov, the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine jointly with the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety of Israel scheduled intergovernmental negotiations on the liberalization of air transportation for the first ten days of March 2014.
"We are thrilled with the positive changes on this direction, when the full liberalization of airspace is announced, and all carriers, both Ukrainian and Israeli, have free access to the market. And I think that the capacity [of the market] and passenger traffic will be increased by another 1.5 times," the airport director said.
