Ukraine as of Oct 25 harvests 50.1 mln t of grain from 87% of fields

Ukraine as of October 25, 2013 had harvested over 13.7 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from 87% of the forecast fields, reads a press release of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine.

The ministry said that the average yield is 36.5 centners per hectare compared with 29.8 centners per hectare a year ago.

As of October 25, 2013, farmers harvested 16.79 million tonnes of grain corn from 2.85 million hectares (58% of the planned fields). The average yield is 59 centners per hectare.

Some 200,000 tonnes of buckwheat was harvested from 169,000 hectares (93% of fields). The average yield is 11.8 centners per hectare. 85,000 tonnes of rice was threshed from 13,000 hectares (54% of the fields). The average yield is 65.2 centners per hectare.

Farmers harvested 9.34 million tonnes of sunflower seeds from 4.51 million hectares (92% of the fields) with the average yield of 20.8 centners per hectare.

Almost 2.2 million tonnes of soybeans were threshed from 1.09 million hectares (80% of the fields) with the average yield of 20.1 centners per hectare.

Sugar beets were harvested from 221,000 hectares (77% of the fields). Some 8.6 million tonnes was digged with the average yield of 390 centners per hectare.
